The Groeneweide Duo Challenge start with a Trail Run on the Groeneweide hiking routes through indigenous forests followed by a beautiful Mountain bike ride in the area. It take place at the Saasveld campus, which is part of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and is just outside George. During the Mountain bike section of the Duo Challenge you will see the Garden Route Dam on numerous occasion where you can enjoy the tranquil setting of the dam edged with fynbos and forest. The Dam is a major source of drinking water for the town of George and during dry periods the water levels in the dam drop considerably but besides this the area is still beautiful with great views. The local Mountain Club laid out some beautiful single track sections through the forest around the Dam. It is exhilarating, but doable for a beginner rider.
