An abundance of sunshine greeted runners and riders as they assembled at the Kleynfontein Bush Lapa for the third annual Wolwedans MTB and Trail Run that took place on Saturday, 17 December. This event kicked of TriSport’s December events series and presented something for the whole family with the 2 different disciplines and various distances to choose from. Situated on a hill top, the Kleynfontein venue provided the perfect scenic backdrop with incredible sea as well as mountain views.

In the 3km category junior runners, Rio-Rida and Mari-ne Hattingh both crossed the finish line in a time of 00:17:51, awarding them first and second-place positions. Helane Keyser was hot on their heels with a time of 00:18:18. In the 9km event, the first runner to finish was Frederik Lotter with a time of 0:42:35 with Whayn Windwaai in second (0:47:42), and Theuns Botha in third place (0:48:34). Whayn and fellow Wolwedans runner, Chantel de Bruin, have committed to a very active summer and are participating in every event in the Garden Route this December month!

The MTB event was well-attended but it was the youth males that stole the show. Third on the podium in the 16km event was Franjo Hattingh (0:55:25) with John Horne (0:51:24) in second and youth male Anre Vorster taking first place with a time of 0:41:42.
The riders in the 40km produced excellent results and Armand Lombard finished first with an outstanding 1:29:20. Next to cross the finish line was vet male Kobus Wagner (1:37:49) with Ettiene Weber in hot pursuit with a time of 1:39:05.
