TriSport has spotted a gap in the market for female-only outdoor recreational events and has enjoyed great success with its Trail Girl and MTBike Girl events, and over the weekend of 20 and 21 May, they hosted another one of these popular events.
The renowned Simola Hotel and Spa was the venue for this year’s event. Each day was started as this 5-star establishment overlooking the Knysna lagoon, the Heads, and the beautiful town of Knysna. A small group of excited ladies gathered on day 1 in perfect weather conditions for the day’s race briefing. The day’s routes circled the Harkerville area and the girls loved the new event format, where they could choose the routes that they wanted to do. A large part of this event took place in the beauty of the indigenous Knysna forest and riders could make use of well-marked routes in areas of SANParks that’s not usually accessible to riders. With beautiful forest and sea views along the pristine tracks, it was a real feast for the eyes.
A highlight of the day was definitely the massages and the ladies could relax and unwind while being pampered by the soothing hands of the therapists at the Simola Spa.
On the second day, the riders were again greeted by ideal weather conditions as the ladies prepared to tackle the Homtini MTB route at Rheenendal. This circular route starts at the Krisjan-se-Nek picnic site. The track took riders through some indigenous forest, along rivers and, after a bit of a climb, they were rewarded with remarkable views of the local landscape.
Groups consisting of friends and/or sisters from right across South Africa attended the weekend and those who were not friends before, definitely left as friends.
TriSport’s next ladies-only event, the Trail Girl 2 Day Run, will be taking place next year in Wilderness during the last weekend of June (30 June and 1 July). This promises to be yet another fantastic event and is perfect for mothers and daughters who are looking to spend some quality time together.
