RIDE THROUGH THE NAMAQUA BLOOM WITH TRISPORT’S THREE DAY FLOWER MTB TOUR

The magic of Namaqualand during flower season

Namaqualand is world famous for its annual spring flower display. After the winter rains the semi-desert comes alive with daisies, succulents and many other seasonal flowers. On this tour, riders are not simply passing through. You are immersed in the scenery, pedalling through carpets of colour, along remote farm roads and across terrain that most people will never see. With TriSport’s experienced guides, Hano and Sonja, you also learn more about the region’s unique plants, geology and heritage.

How the tour works

The Namaqua 3 Day Flower MTB Tour includes 4 nights of accommodation and 3 full days of riding. Guests check in at the Okiep Country Hotel, where the group gathers for the first evening together before the riding begins.

Day 1 is arrival and check-in. There is time to settle into your room, meet the group and enjoy a relaxed dinner.

Day 2 takes riders onto private farmlands around Okiep. The terrain is scenic and varied, with plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs. Coffee is served on the route and a light lunch follows back at the hotel. In the afternoon guests can choose to take part in a guided mine tour or enjoy a sunset outing to one of the nearby granite koppies.

Day 3 is spent at Goegap Nature Reserve. This is one of the region’s most beautiful areas during flower season. Riders follow a route that winds between mountain ridges and valleys filled with blossoms. A mid-morning coffee stop and a traditional lunch on the reserve round off the day.

Day 4 features the Copper Trail. This is one of the highlights of the tour. Riders pass quiver trees, cross old bridges, follow sections of old mining routes and cycle through the historic town of Nababeep before finishing at Jakkalswater Guest Farm. A final light lunch is served back at Okiep Country Hotel.

Day 5 is departure day. Guests enjoy breakfast with the group before saying goodbye and heading home.

Who the tour is suitable for

The Namaqua Flower MTB Tour is ideal for intermediate riders. The terrain is not extremely technical, but you should be comfortable riding on gravel, rocky ground and some sandy sections. TriSport recommends a general riding speed of 15 to 18 km/h over 40 km. E-bikes are welcome and are recommended for older riders or anyone who prefers an easier ride.

Although you do not need to be a competitive cyclist, you should be fit enough to ride consecutive days of 40 to 60 km.

What is included

The tour package includes accommodation, all meals from dinner on arrival to dinner on the last evening, coffee and snacks on the route, a goody bag, access to Goegap Nature Reserve, a copper mine tour, route support, a backup vehicle and experienced guides. TriSport also carries a medical kit, radios and a Garmin InReach device for emergencies.

Guests need to bring their own bike, spares, tools and personal items. Travel to and from Okiep, alcohol, optional services and insurance are not included.
